Shaken

In the airless between you hear it —

the earthquake

approaching

rumbling a visceral roar

snatching all thoughts

of time

and truth

a herald to the

shaking

that you asked for, you’ll recall,

in one heedless moment

of longing to be free

when courage felt more real, more

possible

than this

swift

thunder.

What if you stayed

this time

joining the

rocked

into humming,

cracked open

within thrumming,

broken up

into particle and

light —

to claim the oscillation

that vibrates within you,

both shaken

and shaker,

a matter

remade

as a shattering gleams

its bright path across ripples —

all of it one brilliant

spiraling wave

winking, beckoning

pealing within,

released

as your own

true

momentum.

  1. I am trembling from this one, Tricia! It’s staggering as art and also as a call into our “true momentum.”
